Bridal Jewelry Trends for Fall ‘10 – Eternity Bands

Fall 2010 bridal jewelry trends, seem to only have a few encompassing themes in mind this season: elegance, color and Ritani. The jewelry pieces expected to make an impact this season, are those that can all be found within The Romantique, Masterwork and Andaré Collections.

Gold, a popular trend on the runways is also leaving a mark on bridal jewelry trends for the fall. The Andaré Collection features an Eternity band that is centered around a rose gold band. The Romantique Collection offers an eternity band with the finest set micropave, bezel set diamonds and microscopic hand carved leaf motif.

Another emerging trend is adding color, particularly, mixing black and white together.  Again in the Andaré Collection features an Andaré diamond eternity band twisted around a black band insert.  The Masterwork Collection features a variety of bands incorporating color into their rings with either sapphires or yellow diamonds, specifically in the engagement rings.

The ‘leaf motif’ and ‘vintage-inspired’ is also making an appearance in bridal jewelry. The Romantique Collection, as mentioned before, offers the best of both trends due to the hand carving that gives the feel of an antique engagement ring with a beautiful Grecian leaf carved design. This wide eternity band features the finest of diamonds and the hand craftsmanship of the leaf motif.

Cheat Sheet: When Shopping for a Wedding Band

Let’s face it, shopping for a wedding band is often overlooked and, when finally tackled, can be daunting. With so many styles, it seems like the choices are endless, thus, we’ve developed a cheat sheet of things to consider when looking for one of the most important pieces of jewelry you will ever own.

Will you wear the ring every day? If you want to wear the engagement ring everyday, then the wedding band should mirror the style of the engagement ring. Be sure to consider how the rings look when paired and how well they sit together.

Will you mix things up and sometimes not pair with your engagement ring? If you are not going to rock your engagement ring everyday then perhaps you want a wedding band that is slightly more detailed.

Are you looking for matching bands for you and your husband-to-be? Of course, you do not have to have matching bands, however, if you would like to have similar styles, make sure you both agree on the style of the bands. If you can’t reach agreement, consider bands that compliment each other.

Do you like to mix and match your jewelry metals depending on what you’re wearing for the day? If so, consider two-tone wedding bands that pair flawlessly with whatever jewelry you feel like wearing: yellow gold, white gold, platinum or sterling silver all look fabulous with a two-tone wedding band.

What is an Eternity Band?

Being in the jewelry business one of the most common questions I get is “What is an eternity band?”  And then “Why can it not be sized?”  So I am going to take a moment and explain a few things regarding the subject.

Taken literally, eternity does mean forever.  With that in mind, the eternity band was created to show long lasting love.  Though it is beautiful it does come with its share of complications.  Once you have a band made with diamonds that go all the way around you will not be able to size it. And as we woman know, we do tend to go up and down in sizes throughout our life.  I would say it’s rare when a woman stays the same size her whole life then not.
That being said you may want to know all of your options before you purchase one.  If you have a talented jeweler you could perhaps have the band made a half size larger and have sizing beads put on the inside and if you happen to put on a few extra pounds, the beads could be taken out.   If you do not prefer sizing beads you could have a ring guard put on the inside.

Some other options include leaving out a few stones on the bottom so you can size the ring.  This works best with an eternity pave or eternity channel set ring, though you must also be careful with channel when sizing. Some jewelers will offer the option of sizing bar or three quarters of the way, and half way around.  Not only may it help with cost but you will have a better chance of sizing in the future.

Another thing to think about it the safety of your stones.  If you tend to be rough on your jewelry having an eternity band may not be the best idea. You can break and scratch the stones that are hitting against whatever hard surface.

These are just a few of the issues you may want to discuss with your jeweler before making your purchase.
