Courtesy of Courtney Goldman Photography

With Spring right around the corner, it can only mean one thing…time for Ritani Diamond Dashes!  What better way to spend a weekend than to put on your favorite pair of sneakers and search the city for a diamond engagement ring with your significant other?!  Ritani, the leading designer of engagement rings, wedding bands and diamond fashion jewelry, has paired with Fink’s Jewelers for a series of upcoming Diamond Dashes where a Ritani diamond engagement ring is at stake.

A diamond dash is a modern day treasure hunt, where teams of couples receive clues in ‘scavenger hunt’ style and compete in the respective downtown areas for a beautiful diamond engagement ring.  Teams receive clues via text message on their cell phones, answering each clue by traveling to the next destination, where they receive their next hint as to the possible location of the engagement ring.

The Norfolk, VA Diamond Dash will take place this Saturday March 12, 2011 at noon.  The registration and kick-off will be at Town Point Park.  Clues will lead couples all around Downtown Norfolk, where they will be on the hunt for the hidden $15,000 Ritani engagement ring.  Teams looking to register for the event can visit www.norfolkdiamonddash.com.

The Charlottesville, VA Diamond Dash will be taking place on Saturday March 19, 2011 at noon.  Onsite registration and the kick-off will be at the Charlottesville Pavillion.  Teams looking to join the hunt for yet another Ritani $15,000 engagement ring can visit www.charlottesvillediamonddash.com.

The last Diamond Dash in March will take place on Saturday March 26, 2011 in Greensboro, NC.  The event will begin at 11:00am at Center City Park where the first clue will be given to the couples who are looking for the $15,000 Ritani diamond engagement ring.  To pre-register for the event, couples can visit www.greensborodiamonddash.com.

Stay tuned for more upcoming Ritani Diamond Dashes!  Lace up those kicks and let the Diamond Dashes begin!

RINGing in the New Year with Celebrity Engagements – Who will make it down the aisle first?

The most popular gift for celebrity couples this Christmas was definitely the engagement ring, with high-profile couples getting engaged left and right.  After a little under a year of dating, Reece Witherspoon became engaged to her agent boyfriend, Jim Toth.  Toth presented the smitten Witherspoon with a rare and unique 4-carat Ashoka Diamond Engagement Ring set on a pave and platinum band produced by William Goldberg Diamond Corporation.  We can’t wait to see what kind of wedding band she pairs with that stunner!

Also making it official is the controversial couple of LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian.  After meeting on the set of their made for TV movie, Northern Lights, the couple turned in their wedding bands, which ended their marriages, and began dating immediately.  Cibrian presented Rimes with a 5-carat Oval Diamond Engagement Ring, which also features single-cut pave diamonds and small rose-cut diamonds set uniquely in rose gold Fleur-de-Lis designs that attach to the band.  The ring was designed by Cibrian’s childhood friend, the jeweler Brent Polacheck, who received design consultations from both LeAnn and Eddie.

What a year for Natalie Portman?!  First Portman celebrated the opening of the much anticipated movie Black Swan, which showcases her in an award-worthy role.  Now Portman has wedding and baby shower to plan after receiving an engagement ring from New York City Ballet dancer and Black Swan co-star, Benjamin Millepied, AND announcing her pregnancy.  2011 is looking like it’s shaping up to be the year of Portman.  How talented is their child going to be?!

Princess Kate? When will Prince William put a RING on it?!

Celebrity engagements have definitely grabbed our attention lately with Dancing with the Stars Pro, Karina Smirnoff getting engaged with a breathtaking 4.5 carat Asscher cut diamond and the adorable couple of Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo getting ready to say “I Do” with an Asscher cut diamond flanked by trapezoids by Bader and Garrin, our focus is now shifted across the pond as growing speculation is swirling around Prince William and longtime girlfriend, Kate Middleton. The couple began dating while attending University in 2003 and after a brief split in 2007, the couple seems to once again be going strong.

Royal watchers have long been predicting the impending engagement of the extremely private couple, but rumors have definitely begun to swirl with the couple making very public appearances recently at a friend’s wedding in the English countryside and with both of their families vacationing together with the Queen at her royal estate of Balmoral.

As we all wait with baited breath for the Queen’s wall post on her newly established Facebook page, we are all left wondering…. will the prince continue the trend by proposing to his princess with an Asscher engagement ring?

Wedding Location-The Skies the Limit

Most couples that are engaged take a good amount of time to decide where they want to be married.  Do they want to stay local or go to some exotic island?  For those who have a small families or are planning on eloping, let me throw out an obscure location…The Grand Canyon!  Let that sink in for a second.  I visited the Grand Canyon this summer and actually witnessed a wedding taking place while at one of the viewing observations.  The bride was in a wedding dress and everything!  As they climbed down the mountain, I thought that if I was going to get married without worrying about a guest list, this would be a great place to tell family/friends/future children.  Wouldn’t you like to say you slipped that wedding ring on her finger one of the greatest landscapes in America?

Engagement Rings Rock! How does price relate?

Some couples cringe at the idea of  engagement rings costing less than $1,000, while other couples refuse to consider anything over $1,000. Engagement ring prices vary widely, from simple, small rings with price tags under $100 to hefty designer creations using rare stones that may cost $1 million or more. How much a couple spends depends on what they feel comfortable with. For example, a groom-to-be may want to make a statement about how well he can provide for his future wife, and therefore he’d prefer to seek out more expensive rings. A woman who works with her hands frequently and knows the ring may become damaged, however, may prefer a more affordable ring that will not be as great a financial blow if it is damaged.

In general, spending either too much or too little on an engagement ring may make either individual feel intimidated, ashamed, or otherwise uncomfortable. The best way to resolve these problems is to discuss budgeting before purchasing the ring. Shopping within that budget rather than first finding gorgeous rings that may be far outside your current financial reach helps avoid disappointment and financial stress.

UPDATE: Andrew Shue Married Amy Robach this weekend!

Former Melrose Place star Andrew Shue and Amy Robach Weekend Today Show anchor have tied the knot this past weekend.  This is their second marriage each after both getting divorces a year before getting together.  Andrew has three sons and Amy has two daughters and all were in the wedding party.  Making it a very close Brady Bunch type of wedding.

People.com

The happy couple exchanged wedding rings on Saturday at the Lighthouse on Chelsea Piers on the Hudson river.  They wrote their own vows and have about 120 guests sharing the day with them.  This was also Amy’s birthday, making it a very memorable day for Amy.

Andrew gave Amy an engagement ring back in September of 2009, after only dating a few months.  Quite the whirlwind romance, but I wish them a lot of luck and happiness in their new lives with their blended family.  They planned a Mexican honeymoon for this week.  Did they bring the kids with them??

The Right Hand Diamond Ring Trend

Have you ever admired a diamond ring in a jewelry store, but figured since you weren’t married, it wasn’t a worthwhile purchase?

Long gone are the days when only the married ladies can wear and enjoy a gorgeous diamond ring. The “right hand” ring is one of the hottest trends in the diamond jewelry industry to come along in the last 10 years. There are so many options out there for single woman who works hard for her money and wants to treat herself with a spectacular diamond right hand ring.

The key to pulling off this look is to purchase something that could not be mistaken for a traditional diamond engagement ring. Typically, this means a solitaire style ring.  I would stay away from this style if you want to avoid it  being mistaken for an engagement ring. This still leaves a whole slew of styles to choose from.

One popular option is a cluster style ring. Cluster rings usually feature a lot of smaller diamonds grouped closely together to create the illusion of one large stone. The overall look is usually bold, and very sparkly. Because the diamonds in these types of rings are small, you can find cluster rings at reasonable prices.

Another option to consider is a vintage diamond ring. There are many very attractive diamond vintage rings that are not reminiscent of modern engagement rings. If you look in antique stores or go to estate sales, you will find a wide assortment of diamond rings. Many of them are very ornate, with delicate filigree work and scroll detail. Vintage and antique rings are most suited for those who appreciate the most feminine and delicate of details.

What about a colored diamond? Although pricey, colored diamonds are a perfect way to make a right hand ring statement. A colored diamond is a great option because they are so unique and beautiful—exactly what you should look for in a right hand ring. Since color is an unexpected option for a bridal ring, these types of stones are ideal. Look for diamonds in all colors—chocolate, canary, and blue are among the most popular.

I have also noticed a lot of really cool, detailed diamond bands in a lot of jewelry stores. Look for a diamond band – one maybe with cutouts or a scalloped edge—to avoid a bridal look. If you opt for a thinner diamond band, look for rings that will stack together. This will give you the ability to customize your look.

As you can see, diamond rings have come a long way since the traditional bridal solitaire. The concept of the “right hand” ring is still new, but I don’t think it is a passing fancy. I believe that this is one trend that really has some legitimate staying power. I am looking forward to spotting all of the newest right hand ring designs that will be hitting the stores in 2010.
