Cheat Sheet: When Shopping for a Wedding Band

Let’s face it, shopping for a wedding band is often overlooked and, when finally tackled, can be daunting. With so many styles, it seems like the choices are endless, thus, we’ve developed a cheat sheet of things to consider when looking for one of the most important pieces of jewelry you will ever own.

Will you wear the ring every day? If you want to wear the engagement ring everyday, then the wedding band should mirror the style of the engagement ring. Be sure to consider how the rings look when paired and how well they sit together.

Will you mix things up and sometimes not pair with your engagement ring? If you are not going to rock your engagement ring everyday then perhaps you want a wedding band that is slightly more detailed.

Are you looking for matching bands for you and your husband-to-be? Of course, you do not have to have matching bands, however, if you would like to have similar styles, make sure you both agree on the style of the bands. If you can’t reach agreement, consider bands that compliment each other.

Do you like to mix and match your jewelry metals depending on what you’re wearing for the day? If so, consider two-tone wedding bands that pair flawlessly with whatever jewelry you feel like wearing: yellow gold, white gold, platinum or sterling silver all look fabulous with a two-tone wedding band.

Inception Hits Theaters

Ok boys and girls, dreamy movie star Leonardo DiCaprio is back with what looks like another blockbuster movie, “Inception.”  If anything, I would go to see Ellen Page but I might be in the minority here.  Anyway, I was looking at the summary for the movie (since the trailer doesn’t help much) and this is what it says according to IMDB:

“Dom Cobb is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible-inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming.”

Sounds like Leo has found his nitch in the Sci-Fi/Thriller/Mystery market.  (His last movie was Scorsese’s “Shutter Island.”)  I decided to be a nice guy and save you the time and money and just give you the ending…the idea that Leo wants to plant is for you to buy an engagement ring from Ritani.  Somewhere in your subconscious you want to buy a ring, and Leo is going to help us out there.  One day you might wake up with a Bella Vita, Endless Love, or Romantique engagement ring sitting on your girlfriend’s finger without any memory of putting it there, but rest assured you did.

Don’t let Leo get in your head!  Check us out online or give us a call to buy a ring…before it’s too late!

Celebrity Engagement Rings on a Budget

Tinsel town is seeing a lot of engagements and weddings lately. Emily Blunt and Carrie Underwood both just got whisked away to the land of marriage thanks to ceremonies that happened recently. Both of the beautiful stars not only had beautiful weddings, but they both have beautiful lavish rings to mark their sanctity of marriage. Which is perfect for anyone looking for some inspirational when buying an engagement ring and shopping for elegance and lavishness on a budget.

NHL-star Mike Fisher gave Carrie Underwood a 12 carat canary diamond valuing at an estimated $800,000. Like the canary diamond, but want a smaller size? Solution: The Masterwork Engagement Ring. The ring is a bezel set princess cut fancy yellow diamond center stone with micropave’ diamonds and a single row of micropave’ split shank.

John Krasinski, hunk of The Office, stayed classic, when he bought his now-wife Emily Blunt, from The Devil Wears Prada, a platinum sparkler worth $85,000.  Ritani’s version: a solitaire engagement ring with a prong set diamond center stone with bezel set single diamonds on  undergallery design.

Picking Your Bridal Party

Most of the blogs that appear on this page discuss engagement rings or other type of jewelry by Ritani (besides the celebrity gossip of course).  We pride ourselves on having fine pieces of jewelry available for every special moment in your life.

For this week’s blog, I want to concentrate on the bridal party: the groomsmen and bridesmaids.  Most of the attention is given to the bride and the groom, and we totally ignore those that make the day so special.  The bridal party plays a huge role in a wedding’s success…or its failure.

Picking your bridal party is very important…and after reading this quote that I found on a brides experience with one her bridesmaids will no doubt convince you:

“I went wedding dress shopping with a couple of bridesmaids and had an 11 a.m. appointment at a bridal salon. One of my bridesmaids had been drinking at a christening before our appointment and showed up totally wasted. She was loud, slurring, and grabbing different wedding dresses off the racks. The sales people kept asking her to sit down, but she wouldn’t listen. She finally said that she could tell that she wasn’t wanted there and left. As she was driving out of the parking lot, she hit the sales person’s car and drove away. They took down her tag number and called the police, who came to the scene and interviewed me as part of their investigation. My bridesmaid then called me that afternoon and screamed at me, accusing me of calling the cops on her. She did not recall hitting a car or behaving the way she did. Needless to say, she is no longer a bridesmaid.”

Rule #1: Don’t pick a bridesmaid who gets drunk at a christening IN THE MORNING!!

Rule#2: Don’t let her drive drunk

(These are common sense rules, come on people!)

I’m sure you can find hundreds of other first hand horror stories.

Be sure to check out Ritani, whether on our website or by phone, for all of your jewelry needs!  Click here to start!

World Cup Fever? Here’s Some Medicine…Ritani!

The world cup is living up to its name and is taking the world by storm!  Everyone is talking about which country beat who (some countries I have never even heard of) and as well as predicting which two teams will end up in the finals.  With soccer being a European sport, I was surprised as to how intense America took to the competition!  I can’t tell you how many facebook friends I had to cut because that’s all they would post about…sacrifices had to be made for my sanity…

And then all at once, POOF, America was out and almost all the posts stopped.  Now that all the late evenings and early morning drinking is over  (with the game being in South Africa and all messes with our sleep pattern), people are probably thinking, “what’s left in life?”  Well, maybe you’ll start going back to work and making money…and then with all that money you’re making, you can spend it on fine jewelry.  A beautiful new necklace or diamond ring really helps the grieving process to an American defeat.  Ritani makes some of the finest hand crafted jewelry.  With collections such as Endless Love, Floral, and Romantique, Ritani really proves its point.  We have jewelry for every occasion, from graduations to designer engagement rings!

The Historical Journey of the Diamond Engagement Ring

Ever wonder why we wear engagement rings and wedding bands on a very specific finger? Or why diamonds are so significant to the engaged-to-be-married? If so, we have the answers…

The ancient Greeks used to give their partners rings that were braided to look like veins.  They would wear these rings on the fourth finger of their left hands because they believed that finger contained a very important vein, the vena amoris, which leads directly to one’s heart. That tradition, of course, continues (albeit on the third finger!) today.

Indeed, when it comes to engagement rings, it’s true that diamonds are forever… but the tradition of giving diamond engagement rings isn’t quite at old… just 530 years, to be exact. The trend setter?  Archduke Maximilian I of Austria gave a diamond ring to his bride to be, Mary of Burgundy in the Fifteenth Century.

Before Maximilian’s historical gesture, the more common engagement ring consisted of a plain metal band that had a poem or message about love inscribed on it.  If the suitor was wealthy enough to purchase a gem, the ring would have a ruby on it (ruby being the gem of love at the time).

So, you ask: how did we get from the modest inexpensive band to the grand diamond engagement ring that we all have come to know and love?  One of the world’s best known diamond campaigns “A Diamond is Forever” has a lot to do with it.  Typically, diamonds were advertised by photographing young Hollywood starlets wearing the jewelry.  The industry then began to incorporate males in these shoots, giving the diamonds as a gift to their objects of affection.  Eventually, diamonds transformed into the ultimate gesture of love, and the public began to see that love could best be symbolized through the gift of a diamond (and the bigger and higher quality the diamond; the bigger and higher the quality the man’s love for the women he is proposing to!) Needless to say, the campaign was huge success and if you ask us: a win for women everywhere! Like most, we are firm believers in beautiful symbols to express love… and what better way to achieve that than via a Ritani engagement ring!

Last Friday, after a ten year absence, the Toy Story trilogy by Pixar became complete with Toy Story 3 as thousands upon thousands of adults (and maybe some children) crowded into the theaters to see the latest installment.  Over the weekend, the movie grossed $110 million dollars, only the third animated movie to do so (joining the ranks of Shrek and Shrek 2).  After reading the reviews, it sounds like the movie struck a chord in the critics, as most of the reviews wrote favorably towards the movie.

The one direction I wish the movie moved towards was the relationship between Woody and Jessie.  Their relationship started back in Toy Story 2, so after a ten year relationship you would have thought Woody would quit draggin’ Jessie around and give her an engagement ring already!  (If you think this is ridiculous, you do realize the movie is about toys interacting with each other right?)  What better way for a cowboy to give his gal a symbol of his love than with a Ritani engagement ring?  I’m thinking Endless Love would be his style…or maybe something from the Romantique Collection.  Let’s face it, Woody made alot of money last weekend, he can afford it!

10 years and no ring yet…shame on you Woody…
