The Royal Wedding: The Newly Married Prince William and Princess Catherine

All eyes were definitely on England this morning with one of the world’s biggest weddings was taking place between Prince William and Kate Middelton.  The event drew an even bigger crowd, with an expected 200 million people watching, than when his father, Prince Charles married Princess Diana back in 1981.  Much of the couple’s popularity is due to the fact that they appear very down to earth and approachable, with Kate not being a member of nobility or royalty.  The couple also touched a lot of hearts when announcing their engagement it was revealed that William proposed with his mother’s engagement ring, as he wanted her to be a part of their special day.

When the couple first announced their engagement, a great deal of attention was focused on who would be designing the future princess’ wedding dress.  Some rumors even had the fashionista designing it herself.  While sitting at home this morning and watching the blessed event, I feel a universal gasp happened when Kate was seen for the first time.  Her Alexander McQueen dress, which was designed by Creative Director, Sarah Burton harkened back to the Grace Kelly era featuring a fitted lace bodice complete with lace sleeves and a dramatic v-neckline.  When it came time to accessorizing the gown, Middleton chose to keep it simple with a borrowed 1936 Cartier diamond tiara, which was a loaned gift from the Queen herself, which held her lace trimmed veil.  Again emphasizing understated elegance, Middelton wore her hair in loose curls, which helped to showcase the Robinson Pelham diamond earrings that were a wedding gift from her parents.  As is custom, the couple only exchanged one wedding band, which as crafted from Welsh gold and was given to William by his grandmother, the Queen, and will be worn by Kate.  William announced a few weeks ago that he would not be wearing a wedding band.

The crowd at Westminster Abbey was filled with bursts of color, as the large crowd of guests chose to ring in Spring with bright and vibrant outfits complete with fashionable hats.  Queen Elizabeth was perhaps the most boldly dressed, wearing a yellow Angela Kelly primrose dress with matching primrose overcoat.  I have to say that two of my favorite hats were worn by the Prince’s cousins, Eugenie and Beatrice, whose Philip Treacy hats definitely had a life of their own.  Although the whole world was watching, my favorite parts of the wedding were definitely the small moments and personal touches that the couple was able to share.  When Kate arrived at the altar with her dad, William was able to lighten the mood by joking with his new father-in-law that the event was a small gathering of their closest family and friends.  I also thought it was sweet when William whispered to Kate that she looked beautiful.  Moments that the latest Princess Di would have been very proud of.

The streets of London were lined with cheering fans and onlookers who wanted to take part in such an historic event, while also catching a glimpse of the newly married couple.  The couple was all smiles and waves as they rode in the traditional carriage from the Abbey to Buckingham Palace.  Once at Buckingham Palace, the couple emerged onto the balcony made famous by William’s parents to share their first kiss as husband and wife.  After sharing a short peck, the couple waved to the crowds who erupted into a joyous uproar which encouraged the couple to partake in a second, slightly longer kiss.  From the fashion and fine jewelry, to the exchanging of vows and wedding band and of course the HATS, the Royal Wedding between Prince William and the newly ennobled Duchess of Cambridge will definitely remain one of the great fairytale moments of our time.

Kate Hudson Receives Rock from Rocker Boyfriend Matthew Bellamy

Actress Kate Hudson sure has a thing for rocks AND rock stars!  The Something Borrowed star announced to Matt Lauer yesterday on The Today Show that she and had accepted an engagement ring from boyfriend, Matthew Bellamy who is the frontman for the rock band Muse.  The couple began dating in late Spring of 2010 and announced shortly after that they were expecting their first child.  Hudson explained that Bellamy’s proposal was “very sweet and very romantic,” and only happened a week ago.  The rock star presented the actress with an engagement ring, which weighs approximately 9.00 carats, featuring an emerald-cut centerstone that is flanked by two tapered baguettes and set in platinum.  This isn’t Kate’s first trip down the aisle with a rockstar, as she previously exchanged wedding bands with Black Crowes lead singer, Chris Robinson with whom she has a son, Ryder.  Although the couple has yet to set a wedding date, I’m sure the couple will decide to exchange vows and wedding bands in a simple yet elegant setting surrounded by only the closest friends and family.

Angelina Jolie – Actress, Humanitarian and Jewelry Designer?

Actress Angelina Jolie is known for many things, her talented career, her unyielding work as an UN Ambassador and also her impeccable style.  Jolie is often seen on the Best Dressed lists throughout awards season, with her bold fashion and jewelry choices that are usually at the forefront of the current trends.  This year was no exception with her arriving to the Golden Globes in a glittery green, long sleeved Atelier Versace gown.  Jolie chose to accent her frock with a pair of Robert Procop emerald drop earrings and Robert Procop cocktail ring.

Although the pair has been collaborating on pieces for years, Jolie has paired up with jeweler Procop, of Robert Procop Exceptional Jewels, to create a jewelry line to benefit her charity Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.  The pair has spent the past year collaborating on the line, which features a series of one-of-a-kind pieces to be sold by invitation only.  Many of the earrings, rings and necklaces from the collection, aptly named Style of Jolie, feature unique stones, such as beryl, cut into cushion and pear shaped styles.  The pieces also showcase the actress’s personal style as she has worn some of the pieces to red carpet events, such as the rose gold and black stone necklace that she wore to the Berlin premiere of Salt over the summer.  Also featured in the collection is a vintage diamond choker necklace, which can also be seen on display at the Julien’s Gallery and Auction House in Beverly Hills, was featured in her most recent film, The Tourist.  Creating stylishly classic jewelry for a great cause, Angelina Jolie is truly saving the world one diamond ring and bracelet at a time.

Just in Time for Spring, a little Celebrity Wedding Band Bling!

With Spring in the air, what better time to celebrate a celebrity wedding?!  The much anticipated nuptials of Reese Witherspoon and her CAA agent fiancé went off without a hitch on March 26th at the actress’ Ojai, CA ranch.  Being her second time down the aisle, Witherspoon was thinking pink when she chose a custom Monique Lhuillier gown to celebrate the occasion.  Daughter Ava, from her previous marriage to Ryan Philippe, served as the Maid of Honor also wearing a Monique Lhuillier dress.  Son Deacon, also from her first marriage, served as the Ring Bearer who had the important job of carrying the couple’s wedding bands from the William Goldberg Diamond Corporation.  To accompany her stunning 4-carat diamond engagement ring, Witherspoon now has a large pave diamond wedding band to add to her collection.  With her acting career in full force and his client list with CAA, they are definitely a Hollywood couple that is a force to be reckoned with.

Seems like Michael Bublé is going to need to change the lyrics to his song, “Haven’t Met You Yet, as the Canadian singer took a trip down the aisle not once but twice last week when he married his girlfriend, actress Luisana Lopilato in her native Argentina.  Argentina has special meaning for the couple, as Bublé presented Lopilato a diamond engagement ring in front of her family there back in 2009.  After Thursday’s civil wedding ceremony, the couple exchanged wedding bands a second time on Saturday in front of 300 of their closest friends and family.  Believe it or not, but the couple is even planning a third wedding ceremony in May for Bublé’s family in Vancouver.  I wonder if they will buy each other three separate anniversary bands to celebrate each event?!

Also tying the knot over the weekend was former Alias star, Michael Vartan who married his girlfriend of the past two years, Lauren Skaar.  Unlike most Hollywood couples, Vartan and Skaar met while shopping at Whole Foods in LA.  The actor presented his blushing bride with a diamond engagement ring during a trip to New York last year.  The couple exchanged vows and wedding bands in front of friends and family at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, CA.  The bride wore a Vera Wang dress that she customized herself at her own bridal shop, L’atelier Couture in MN and the groom of course wore a signature Giorgio Armani tux.  Among those in attendance was Vartan’s former costar, Victor Garber, who served as a groomsman.  What better way to kick of Spring than with a California beach side wedding?!
