And the Oscar Goes to….Hollywood’s Leading Ladies

Courtesy of Jason Merritt/Getty Images

With all eyes on Hollywood last night, it was officially the close of awards season with the 83rd annual Academy Awards.  Long having been considered “the most watched” event in tinsel town, it is always exciting to see what everyone is wearing and on whose arm they arrive.  This year definitely disappoint, as there was a great array of films being honored and the celebrities made sure to dress for the occasion.  There was definitely the spectrum of styles that were seen walking the red carpet.  Some of Hollywood’s leading ladies played it on the safe side, pairing simple jewelry with bold dresses while others made sure to be head to toe over the top!

The ever stunning Reece Witherspoon definitely brought her A-game last night choosing a black and white Armani Privé, figure flattering gown with a simple, high ponytail that showcased the Neil Lane diamond and emerald drop earrings.  Finishing her look was the pair of Neil Lane diamond and platinum bracelets and Neil Lane diamond emerald ring.  Of course the newly engaged actress was seen sporting her Ashoka diamond engagement ring.  The very pregnant Natalie Portman had a radiant glow about her that was definitely helped by the violet Rodarte gown that showcased a shimmering sea of Swarovski crystals.  Beautifully complimenting her look was the dramatic pair of Tiffany & Co. rubellite and diamond drop earrings and Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger diamond ring.  Her engagement ring from fiancé, Benjamin Millepied, must have been a good luck charm for her, as she took home the Oscar for Best Actress.  Looking ever statuesque was Best Supporting Actress nominee, Amy Adams, who wore a glittering purple L’Wren Scott gown that had her sparkling throughout the night.  Not to be outdone by the dress, Adams chose bold Cartier jewelry to complete her look, with a platinum, diamond and emerald necklace, diamond stud earrings and a Cartier platinum, diamond and emerald bracelet.  Her most favorite piece of jewelry was her engagement ring.

Another trend that was seen on the Red Carpet last night were red gowns to match the proverbial runway.  Presenter, Sandra Bullock chose a scarlet red Vera Wang strapless gown that hugged her amazing figure.  She left us a little disappointed with the jewelry though, wearing only Harry Winston diamond stud earrings and a pair of Vintage Harry Winston diamond bangle bracelets.  New mom, Penelope Cruz stepped out in head to toe glam while supporting her Best Supporting Actor husband, Javier Bardem.  It was hard to remember that she had recently delivered their baby boy when seeing her in the plunging L’Wren Scott red, sequined gown that she accented with a pair of Chopard diamond drop earrings.  Newcomer and Best Actress nominee, Jennifer Lawrence definitely left her mark on Hollywood last night with her figure hugging red Calvin Klein gown that left nothing to the imagination.  Finishing her look was the Chopard pair of diamond earrings and simple diamond bangle bracelet.

With every awards show, you will always see a handful of actresses who think outside of the box and push the boundaries with their attire.  Last night this idea definitely seemed to pay of for a few of our favorite leading ladies.  One of the night’s Best Song performers, Gwenyth Paltrow looked like a shiny Oscar statuette in her Calvin Klein Collection metallic gown that was paired with Louis Vuitton high jewelry drop earrings, a broach that served as her belt and a ring.  Weight Watcher’s spokeswoman, Jennifer Hudson showed us that all of her hard work has definitely been paying off with a revealing, tangerine Atelier Versace halter gown.  Diamonds definitely seemed to be Hudson’s best friend last night, as she was seen wearing Neil Lane diamond drop earrings, two Neil Lane wide diamond bangle bracelets, a Neil Lane diamond leaf bangle bracelet and a fancy colored diamond ring.  With such an exciting night that celebrated both film and fashion, it’s hard not to start getting excited for next year’s Academy Awards.

Whether watching your favorite sports teams live or at home with a group of friends, it has long been the tradition to wear your favorite team’s colors.  There is nothing better than watching a game on TV and having the camera flash to the fanatical fans, who are no longer recognizable with their painted faces and team jerseys while waving their foam fingers feverishly.  Some fans even go a step further and actually purchase replica diamond rings when their favorite teams win the Super Bowl, World Series or Stanley Cup.

With the launch of a fine jewelry line featuring NBA team and franchise logos, fans can pledge their team allegiance on a daily basis.  The Gameplan NBA Collection, which was designed under the direction of Lamont Jewelry Creative Director, Monty Abramov, is suitable for male and female fans that are looking to spruce up their sports attire with gold and diamond pieces.  Each of the diamond pendants within the collection is numbered and registered with Gameplan. The collection can currently be seen at Geary’s in Beverly Hills and will soon be distributed by Gameplan at a number of national authorized retailer’s nationwide.

No matter who your favorite team, there is a diamond pendant in the collection for you.  For those rare fans who can’t choose which NBA team they want to follow, Gameplan is offering a Limited Edition Collector Set that features diamond pendants for all of the 30 NBA teams, the NBA logo and the NBA All Star.  Now the women in your life won’t be able to put up a fight about how much time you spend watching sports when you present her with a diamond pendant necklace of your favorite team!  What better way to show your team pride than with diamonds?!

The Bachelor – Hometown Dates and One Step Closer to the Engagement Ring!

Courtesy of cominguprosesblog.com

Last night’s episode of The Bachelor, had Brad taking a big step with each of his relationships with the remaining four women.  Brad went to each of their home towns and spent time with each of their families.  Brad saw these four hometown dates as his chance to see each of the women in their natural habitats and help narrow the pool down even further to help him choose the woman who he will present an engagement ring to in the finale.

Brad’s first date had him in Seattle with Chantal O. and her family.  Brad said that he was anxious to see if Chantal would be on the emotional rollercoaster that she had been on with him in Anguilla.  Chantal took Brad to her house, which is right up the street from her family’s mansion, where he met her dog and two cats.  They then headed to her parents where Brad learned he had a great deal in common with her dad.  Neither of them had the best of relationships with their dads, both have experience in masonry and both are entrepreneurs.  Chantal’s family gave both of them support and welcomed Brad into the family if he ended up choosing Chantal as his future bride-to-be, by proposing with a diamond engagement ring.

After leaving Seattle, Brad headed to the opposite end of the country to Ashley’s hometown of Madawaska, Maine.  Since her hometown borders Canada, Ashley introduced Brad to the local dish called poutine, which is French fries with cheese and gravy.  Brad was able to embarrass himself in front of Ashley and all of America by responding to the waitress’s question in French with “si.”  Brad and Ashley then had an impromptu photo shoot in front of the Madawaska sign and then headed to her parents.  After being introduced to her family, it definitely became clear where Ashley gets all of her energy.  Brad seemed unsure about the nature of his relationship with Ashley after talking with her dad, as he emphasized how driven she was at becoming a dentist.  In the end, Brad loved her family and they in turn welcomed him with open arms and pushed for him to give her the engagement ring.

Then came the most bizarre date in The Bachelor history…Brad flew to Chico, California to meet with Shawntel N. and her family. Before meeting her family, Shawntel gave Brad a tour of their funeral home and went into an in depth explanation of the embalming process with him lying on the table.  I was beyond surprised that Brad didn’t run out screaming when she pulled some of her tools out.  Upon meeting Shawntel’s family, Brad seemed immediately at ease until her dad started to lay on the pressure and guilt about the family busy being handed down to her.  In a heart to heart talk with her dad, Shawntel explained that if Brad presented her with the engagement ring that she would be moving to Austin to be with him.

The last date of the night had Brad meeting Emily’s daughter, Ricky, in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.  Brad was visibly nervous about meeting Ricky and arrived with a gift for the occasion.  Upon meeting Brad, Ricky became immediately shy and wouldn’t look or talk to him.  After sharing a picnic and opening the butterfly kite that Brad brought for her, Ricky eventually turned around.  Back at the house, the three looked like the perfect family, playing a game of Candyland and putting Ricky to bed.  Upon getting ready to leave, Brad ruined the moment saying that he felt awkward about kissing Emily with her daughter asleep upstairs.  In the end, Emily pulled Brad in for a goodbye kiss and again how much her feelings for him have developed over the course of the show.  In the end, Brad gave roses to Ashley, Emily and Chantal, which sent Shawntel home traveling to South Africa next week and possibly receiving an engagement ring from Brad.

The Bachelor – And Then There Were Four!

Courtesy of www.thehollywoodgossip.com

I have to say that last night of The Bachelor, was one of my favorites of the season so far.  After a quick stop over in Costa Rica, Brad whisked the remaining six women to the romantic Caribbean island of Anguilla.  Upon arriving the women were told that there would be three one on one dates and one group date while on the island.  On last night’s episode, it was clear that Brad has become very focused on finding his future bride-to-be that he connects with the most in order to propose with the coveted diamond engagement ring.  This was a big week, as the remaining four will have Brad meet their families next week.

The first one on one date was given to Emily, who I have to say has been my absolute favorite from the start.  She seems like she is there for the right reasons of finding love again, even though she had previously received an engagement ring from the love of her life who was tragically killed in a plane crash.  Brad surprised Emily with a helicopter ride to their own private island in the middle of the Caribbean ocean.  After a deep heart to heart talk, where Brad explained that he gets so nervous around her and asked if she would want him to meet her daughter, Ricky.  When Emily still seemed hesitant, Brad “broke” the rules of the show and revealed that he had true feelings for her and that he was going to give her a rose at the next rose ceremony no matter what.

For his second one on one date, Brad took Shawntel to explore the island of Anguilla where they were able to experience the culture and people first hand.  Brad expressed how much he loved her confidence, which was evident during a game of dominos with the locals.  Shawntel admitted that she is falling in love with Brad, which is hard for her to say at first because she had only said it to two other men in her life.  The two continued to open up with one another during their romantic dinner which finished with a concert from Anguilla singer, Bankie Banx.  After their one on one date, it definitely seemed like Shawntel was going to stay in the running for the engagement ring.

Brad’s third one on one date was spent with Britt, who had spent the least amount of time with him since the start of the show.  The couple was treated to a luxurious ride on yacht and was brought to a secluded spot called Little Bay for some cliff jumping.  After being extremely scared to take the plunge, Britt eventually jumped into the water.  While sharing some quiet time on the beach together, Brad realized that he didn’t have any romantic feelings for Britt and during dinner decided to send her home.  Although she seemed upset, Britt later admitted to the remaining women back at the villa that she wasn’t feeling it like they were and that she was ok with going home without an engagement ring.

Then came the dreaded group date from hell.  Brad arrived extremely early to wake the women up and bring them down to the beach where they were introduced to the Editor of Sports Illustrated, who informed them that they would be posing for the swimsuit issue which actually hits newsstands today.  After Ashley and Chantal seemed to push the boundaries a little bit with their shoots, Michelle decided to go over the top and asked to do her shoot with Brad which ended up being too steamy for the other two women.  During the pool party, all of the women started to meltdown and expressed their individual concerns to Brad.  Making the date that much worse, Brad pulled Ashley aside for some alone time, then went back to the other two women to get the rose to give to her.  In the end, Brad ended up giving roses to Emily, Shawntel, Chantal and Ashley, which sent Michelle home without a shot at becoming his wife with the proposal of a diamond engagement ring.  It was so great to see Michelle go home, as she continued to create unnecessary drama and wasn’t a good fit for Brad.  With Brad getting to meet the families of the remaining four women next week, will he still have feelings for front runner Emily or will his feelings change?

The Grammy’s – Over the Top Performances AND Fashions!

Courtesy of Jeffrey R Staab/Landov/PA

With award season in full swing, the Grammy’s played host to music’s elite last night bringing the artists out in droves.  Unlike most award shows, the Grammy’s attract the most attention for the on stage performances and individual styles that are seen on the red carpet.  This year definitely didn’t disappoint.  Always pushing the boundary with her fashion and entertainment, Lady Gaga certainly out did herself by arriving to the ceremony nestled within an egg, which was designed by Hussein Chalayan, and carried by a group of Romanesque men.

http://www.okmagazine.com

With Lady Gaga leading the charge, many other artists followed suit and were seen in daring outfits that had them marching to their own beat of the drum.  Ever the fashionista, Rihanna walked the Red Carpet in a Jean Paul Gaultier Runway Haute Couture off the shoulder mermaid gown that showcased alternating white ruffles with sheer panels.  With her bright red hair already working as an accessory, the singer paired her frock with a Wilfredo Rosado cameo ring.  Not to be outdone by her bestie, Katy Perry showed up looking like an angel with a custom Giorgio Armani gown with Swarovski crystal bodice and silk organza train.  The look was finished by the pair of light up feather wings that gave the outfit that extra shimmer.  Taking a page from Bjork’s Swan Dress from the Oscars a few years ago, Florence and the Machine frontwoman chose a Givenchy Haute Couture gown with sheer winged sleeves and a bold red winged design on the back to match her stunning red hair.  Perfectly finishing her look were the Lorraine cocktail rings.  The ever stunning Ciara also pushed the envelope with her revealing Emilio Pucci cut-out gown, which she paired with a gorgeous set of Lorraine Schwartz white jade and diamond drop earrings and Ofira white agate ring.  The singer also combined a decadent blend of Ofira and Lorraine Schwartz diamond and white agate bracelets that completed the look.

One of the most popular trends that we saw on the Grammy’s Red Carpet last night were metallics.  New American Idol judge, Jennifer Lopez made sure she took center stage in the spotlight with her barely there silver Emilio Pucci minidress.  Adding to the sparkle of look were the Cartier diamond drop earrings and Cartier onyx spot ring.  Although she didn’t win for Best Female Vocal Performance, Leann Rimes lit up the ceremony with her gold Reem Acra gown that featured asymmetrical shoulders.  Adding added flair to her already glittering outfit, Rimes paired her look with a pair of Ippolita drop earrings, gold bangle bracelets, a Lucifer Vir Honestus ring and of course her engagement ring.  Disney tween queen, Selena Gomez, left a wizardly spell on everyone with her golden J. Mendel gown.  Adding to her grown-up look were the Lorraine Schwartz champagne and white diamond drop earrings and her pair of Lorraine Schwartz diamond bangle bracelets.  The soon to be Mrs. Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert chose a metallic gunmetal Edition by Georges Chakra gown, which seemed to be good luck for the country singer who took home the award for the Best Female Vocal Performance.  The singer paired her one shoulder dress with a dramatic set of drop earrings and her engagement ring.  When it comes to award shows, is it best to stand out from the crowd or play it safe?  I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks with this year’s Oscars!

Valentine’s Day – Will You Be Hit By Cupid’s Arrow?!

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, no literally less than a week away, it has many couples wondering how to spend the holiday.  There are a variety of ways in which people celebrate the holiday.  Some couples, who are clearly too cynical for their own good, view the Valentine’s Day as a day solely created by retailers to ensure another day of profitable returns for their companies.   Well we say BOO to those couples!  Why not designate the fourteenth of February to be the one day of the year when you can go all out in expressing how much you love that special someone in your life?!  Being in love makes you want to scream from the rooftops how in love you are and how lucky you are to have found that special person to spend your life with.

Whether you’re the low key kind of Valentine’s Day couple or like to go over the top by a having a pink gorilla show up at your loved one’s work to deliver flowers, there’s a gift out there for you.  Having long been considered the most popular gift that is given on Valentine’s Day, you really can’t go wrong with a bouquet or red roses.  Instead of sending the generic florist card that cuts you off after a certain number of letters, why not get creative and make your own card to go along with them?  Then there is the ever so popular box of Godiva chocolates.  If you’re looking to go outside of the traditional Godiva golden box, a great way to add your own spin on giving such a decadent gift is to get inspired and become you’re own Martha Stewart by baking your own batch of cupcakes or brownies.  I mean, who has the will power to say “no” to homemade baked goods?!

As the old saying goes, “diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” and what better occasion to surprise you’re sweetheart with something that’s going to last past Valentine’s Day than with a sparkly new piece of jewelry?!  Nothing says “I Love You” quite like a gorgeous pair of diamond stud earrings or a stunning diamond bracelet, which will make her think of you every time she wears them.  Since Valentine’s Day is considered to be the most romantic holiday throughout the year, why not take the leap and propose with a diamond engagement ring?  That would surely be a Valentine’s Day never to forget!  If you’re already married, a great and sentimental gift that would surely be a hit would be a new diamond eternity band.  Whether you’ve been married for a year or 50 years, a great way to celebrate such a day would be a diamond band for her.  Who knows, she could even surprise you with a new wedding band of your own.

With Cupid getting ready to take his aim at the millions of in love couples in a few days, what better way to celebrate in such a “lovey dovey” kind of day than to help out the finalists in the Ritani Reluctant Groom-to-Be Contest on Facebook?  Simply “like” Ritani on Facebook at RitaniDesigns then click on the Ritani Ring Contest Vote Facebook page to cast your vote for the story and couple that captures your heart and help to make their dreams of getting married come true?  The top two couples with the most votes will each win a diamond engagement ring.  Be sure to spread the Valentine’s Day cheer and help a couple to create a Valentine’s Day that they will never forget?!  You better hurry, voting ends on February 13th and the winners are announced on Valentine’s Day!

The Bachelor – So close to an Engagement Ring, the Remaining Six Women Can Almost Taste It!

Courtesy of ABC

Brad sure does know how to show the ladies of this season’s The Bachelor a good time!  Last week he invited them to an action packed few days in Las Vegas and this week he whisked the remaining eight women to the beautiful island of Costa Rica.  Brad really seems to be pulling out all of the stops in his search for finally being able to give out an engagement ring and finding his true bride to be.

This week again had us on the edge of our seats wondering who Brad would choose for the two one-on-one dates.  The first one-on-one date went to Chantal, who seemed over the moon excited after she and Brad seemed to hit a little hiccup in Vegas.  Michelle of course was more than enthusiastic for her and stated that she hoped Chantal was attacked by monkeys.  Although Brad and Chantal were flying through the jungle on the world’s longest zip-line, they were however safe from any animal attacks.  The date continued with an outdoor dinner, but it was quickly interrupted by a downpour of rain that left the only thing for them to do was retreat back to Brad’s room.  Brad had no other choice than to give Chantal a rose after she changed out of her clothes and into one of his dress shirts and stated how crazy she is about him.  As of right now, Chantal definitely seems like a contender against Emily for Brad’s heart AND engagement ring.

Brad took the remaining six women on the group date, which had them repelling down a waterfall.  Michelle of course threw another fit as she and Brad made a promise that the next time they were going to repel down something they would do it together and it only be something for the two of them.  After all of the women make it down the waterfall, it’s off to the hot springs where Brad pulled Jackie aside to tell him how much he appreciated her going down the waterfall even though she had a fear of heights.  Brad also pulled Emily aside for some alone time, where she told him that she has a tendency to sabotage relationships.  Could that be indicated by the engagement ring that she is always seen wearing on her left hand?

Brad then had his one-one-one date with Alli where they explored a 40 million year old cave.  In the end, the small talk conversation at dinner had Brad doubting what his true feelings for Alli were and he sent her packing without a rose.  The cocktail party had all of the women wanting to throw Michelle from a waterfall after she admitted to sneaking off to Brad’s room for some alone time with him.  Brad ended up giving roses to Ashley, Emily, Shawntel, Britt and Michelle and sent Jackie home without any further shot at receiving his engagement ring.  Brad then surprised the remaining six women by telling them that they would be heading to Anguilla.  As the group of women continues to get smaller and smaller, we are left wondering who will win Brad’s heart and his engagement ring proposal.

The Super Bowl: Not Just About the Football Game

Courtesy of Nelson Chenault, US Presswire

Almost every TV in America last night was tuned into watch the Green Bay Packers take on the Pittsburgh Steelers during Super Bowl XLV, which took place at Cowboy Stadium in Dallas, TX.  For most men, the Super Bowl serves as their annual “Oscars,” party, with a great deal of attention paid to where the big game will be watched, what jerseys or team fashion will be worn, and most importantly what food and drink will be served.  As many women obligatorily watch the game to offer support to their husbands and boyfriends as they cheer on their favorite teams to victory, last night had a great deal to offer the opposite sex as well.

Before the start of the game, Glee starlette, Lea Michele, sang a moving version of the song, “America the Beautiful.”  Michele looked amazing with a pair of camel pants and winter white wool coat and nailed every aspect of the song.  What caught my attention most during the performance though, was the Michele was seen wearing a diamond band on her left hand.  Could this be a precursor to an engagement ring?  Or did she not want to overshadow such a beautiful song, by dripping head to toe in diamond earrings, necklaces and bracelets?  Following Michele’s performance was the traditional singing of the National Anthem.  Pop sensation, Christina Aguilera was brought in to belt out the often difficult tune.  Although she was able to hit all of the required high notes, Aguilera actually messed up the lyrics to the song by mixing two of the verses together.  I felt awful that she botched the song, but at least she chose a basic black suit outfit and simple bracelet and ring to pair with the outfit.

Courtesy of Getty Images

One of the biggest attractions of the Super Bowl is always the Halftime Show.  With huge-name acts, such as Bruce Springsteen, The Who and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers over the past few years, it was kind of a shock when the Black Eyed Peas were announced for this year’s festivities.  Although the audio was subpar, the over-the-top costumes and choreographed extras, saved the performance.  The always glamorous Fergie looked stunning in a short dress with sparkly shoulder pads but what made the outfit was the stack of bangle diamond bracelets and wide diamond band ring that helped enhance the luminescence of her outfit.  Because it is one of the “biggest” sporting events of the year, the Super Bowl continually attracts a plethora of celebrities.  This year didn’t disappoint with shots of Michael Douglas and his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Aniston, Hugh Jackman, Ashton Kutcher and cute couple, Alex Rodriguez and Cameron Diaz, teasing the at-home audience.  With the traditionally entertaining Super Bowl commercials added into the mix, Super Bowl 2011 was a well rounded entertaining event with close scoring game, which helped the Packers clench their Super Bowl diamond rings.

What Better Way to Celebrate the Coming of Spring than with a Floral Engagement Ring?!

As the country has been continuing to shovel out from yet another snowstorm this week, it’s no surprise that Puxatony Phil didn’t see his shadow this year!  With all of the snow on the ground, there would have been no way for him to see his shadow, not that I’m complaining because that means that spring is right around the corner.  Woohoo!  What better way to celebrate Spring than with a shiny new bauble from the Floral Collection?!

One of the biggest trends in diamond engagement rings that we have been seeing since ringing in the New Year is all things floral.  The overwhelming popularity of the AMC show, Mad Men, has brought about a renaissance of all things vintage.  One of the most popular vintage fashions is bright and bold floral motifs and patterns, which have trickled through the fashion world and are now making their presence felt throughout the jewelry industry as well.  Whether the floral can be seen surrounding the center stone of an engagement ring or intricately shown on the band, the overall emphasis is focused on a romantic feel that can be translated through the design.  Since Valentine’s Day is just a few weeks away, a floral diamond engagement ring is sure to have your bride-to-be grinning from ear to ear!

We saw a great deal of floral worn by celebrities at both the SAG Awards and Golden Globes, with actresses, such as Claire Danes and Mila Kunis wearing dresses that showcases boldly colored flower patterns.  Some celebrities even took it a step further and wore bold floral necklaces and bracelets.  With the Grammy’s and Oscar’s right around the corner, we’re sure to see the floral trend continue with many stars choosing to wear floral rings, bracelets and earrings to accompany their fabulous frocks!
